Coffee has always lived between two worlds. For some, it’s a chance to slow down, relax, and savor the moment. For others, it’s the fuel behind deadlines, meetings, creative thinking, and long workdays.
Labora Café was designed to bring those worlds together. The goal was to create a space where comfort and productivity coexist, where customers can unwind, collaborate, or work in an environment that feels both inspiring and welcoming. Warm natural materials, calming colors, and thoughtfully designed seating create an atmosphere that encourages people to stay longer, think more creatively, and enjoy the experience, whether they’re catching up with friends or building their next big idea.
For the language lovers, the name Labora comes from the Latin verb laborare, meaning “to work.” From the very beginning, it was clear that the interior needed to celebrate more than everyday work. It also had to honor the craftsmanship behind specialty coffee, the time, care, and ritual that go into every cup. On a subtler level, it was designed to celebrate the quiet effort behind everything beautiful, reminding us that even the simplest things are often the result of patience and dedication.
When we designed LABORA Café, we brought these ideas together, creating a space where productivity and beauty exist side by side. Our goal was not to create a trendy interior that would quickly go out of style. Instead, we focused on designing a timeless space that reflects the brand’s values: authenticity, craftsmanship, and simplicity. Every material, color, and architectural detail was selected to support an atmosphere that feels calm, welcoming, and naturally connected to the experience of enjoying thoughtfully prepared coffee.
Inspired by Simplicity
Offering delicate, slow-dripped Vietnamese coffee and premium ceremonial-grade matcha, LABORA celebrates quality over excess. We carried that same philosophy into our interior design, embracing the idea that simplicity is not about having less, but about making room for what truly matters.
Instead of filling the space with decorative elements, we embraced clean architectural lines, honest materials, and a restrained color palette that allows every detail to breathe. The space feels calm, uncluttered, and effortlessly refined.
The interior quietly complements the handcrafted beverages rather than competing with them for attention. More importantly, the clean, airy atmosphere gives customers the mental space to focus, create, and enjoy the experience of working.
A Palette Drawn from Nature
To create a relaxed and grounded environment, we looked to nature as a reference point, focusing on the way natural spaces feel balanced, calm, and effortless.
Soft sage green introduces a subtle connection to the outdoors while adding a soothing tone to the space. Warm oak wood brings texture and a sense of familiarity, making the interior feel lived-in and comfortable. Creamy white tile and lightly textured walls reflect natural light throughout the café, keeping the space bright without feeling harsh or overdesigned.
Together, these tones create a setting that feels fresh, timeless, and easy to settle into. Instead of relying on bold colors or dramatic contrasts, the palette supports the experience of working without distraction, creating an atmosphere that allows both focus and quiet moments of reflection.
Soft Forms Create Comfort
Although the design is minimal, it avoids feeling rigid through the use of curved forms, a response to the need for softness within an otherwise clean architectural space.
Gentle arches frame portions of the seating area, while rounded corners and curved millwork soften the interior throughout the café. These subtle forms repeat across the space, from the soft edges of the service counter and soffits above, to the rounded café tables, pedestal seating near the window, light fixtures, and even the plant vessels and the natural arching of the plants themselves. Together, they create a sense of continuity that feels calm and welcoming.
Most notably, the arched elements that define the seating area transform a simple partition wall into a more expressive feature. The combination of warm and cool materials enhances this effect, making the arches feel almost like framed openings that draw the eye through the space and upward.
The balance between straight lines and organic curves gives the interior its quiet character, softening the overall experience while guiding movement in a natural way.
Bringing Nature Indoors
Plants are integrated throughout the café, adding life without overwhelming the clean aesthetic. Their cascading foliage and naturally arching stems become architectural elements in their own right, introducing movement, softness, and a living layer that can easily evolve over time.
More than decoration, the greenery reinforces the café’s connection to natural ingredients, mindful preparation, and everyday wellness. Combined with warm wood finishes and abundant natural light, it creates an environment that feels fresh, calming, and restorative.
Designed for Different Ways People Gather
Every guest visits a café for a different reason. Some stop in for a quick coffee before work, while others meet friends, read a book, or spend hours working remotely.
The seating layout was carefully planned to support each of these experiences. Banquette seating creates comfortable spaces for conversations, window seating offers a quiet place to work, while high-top tables encourage shorter visits and casual interaction.
Rather than separating these experiences, the layout allows them to flow naturally together.
A Space That Sparks Curiosity
Creating a productive environment does not mean stripping away every visual distraction. In fact, spaces that feel too stark or empty can be just as uninspiring as those that feel cluttered.
At LABORA, the goal was to strike a balance between clarity and discovery. While the overall design remains clean and uncluttered, carefully placed details invite guests to explore the space visually. Alternating materials, thoughtfully integrated LED signage, unexpected shelving niches, sculptural ceiling features, and bold architectural elements create moments of discovery without overwhelming the experience.
One of the design’s signature elements is the series of large wooden half-round cutouts that frame views on one side of the café. Rather than simply dividing space, they create a sense that something lies beyond, encouraging curiosity and drawing the eye deeper into the interior. These moments of discovery bring a subtle sense of adventure to the café, helping create an environment that feels both focused and inspiring.
Materials That Shape the Atmosphere
The material palette follows the same philosophy as the café itself: simple, authentic, and carefully crafted. Rather than relying on luxurious finishes for their own sake, each material was selected for the atmosphere it creates and the role it plays within the overall experience.
Large-format neutral floor tile establishes a calm, understated foundation, while the crisp quartz countertop and vertically stacked subway tile draw the eye upward, creating a clean architectural backdrop. Against this restrained canvas, warmer and more expressive materials begin to emerge. The distinctive half-round wood panels, used in both natural and painted finishes throughout the café, introduce texture, rhythm, and a quiet sense of intrigue, encouraging guests to notice the space one detail at a time.
Even with this variety, the material palette remains cohesive and uncluttered. Every finish has a purpose, allowing the craftsmanship of the materials to speak for itself while reinforcing the café’s identity of simplicity, authenticity, and thoughtful preparation.
