We recently put our signature on another frozen dessert store design. Swirlicious came to us with a small space that featured only standard, nondescript elements. We used color, patterns, graphics, and finishing details to create an interior that captures the joy and flavor of its sweet treats while making the most of the available square footage.

We started with a simple rectangular room and introduced visual interest by creating distinct functional areas, each with its own look and feel. Every zone was infused with details that keep the eye engaged and make the interior lively and dynamic. Within this angular space, we made extensive use of curved lines—an intentional nod to the store’s name. The curved soffits set the tone, serving multiple purposes: defining the service area, creating a unique ceiling landscape, and capturing the playful, fun essence of the brand.

The strong presence of a pleasant pink instantly hints at the store’s offerings. Commonly associated with frozen desserts, this color also subtly stimulates the appetite. We incorporated it throughout the store in various ways—from the soffits and illuminated counter facade to the walls and light fixtures. To balance the sweetness of pink, we introduced strong, vibrant accents, creating an overall look reminiscent of a fruit-flavored ice cream cone topped with colorful sprinkles.

While subway tiles provided a neutral backdrop for the vibrant colors, they also served a practical purpose by making the interior easy to maintain. Alongside them, we introduced a variety of textures—most notably, vertical wooden slats that added depth and a natural, organic touch, and which we alternated throughout the store. The ceiling adopts the same visual language as the subway tile, contributing to a seamless design. A black-and-white geometric pattern adds character to the floors and helps delineate key areas such as the service counter, self-serve station, and selfie wall, while also subtly guiding the flow of foot traffic.

Two distinct seating areas are positioned along the front window and the side wall, allowing for comfortable movement throughout the store. A mix of modern and traditional furniture adds visual interest, but we opted for pieces in neutral tones so they wouldn’t compete with the store’s vibrant colors and patterns.

Immediately visible upon entry, the selfie wall—with its large, colorful graphics and store logo—is perfectly positioned to catch natural light and invite customers to snap photos. It sits opposite a bold neon sign, offering another photo opportunity and drawing attention from across the room. A second neon sign at the back ensures that no matter where customers find themselves—waiting, enjoying their treats, or preparing to leave—they can capture a fun moment.

A combination of recessed fixtures, pendants, and LED accents creates a layered ambiance that complements the natural daylight streaming into the store and ensures every corner feels bright and inviting. The pendant designs, inspired by the playful shapes of frozen desserts, help define the store’s functional zones through their placement and distinctive forms. LED lights trace the contours of the soffits, counter, and back wall, while recessed sources keep the self-serve area clearly in focus.

The Swirlicious logo is also a creation of Mindful Design Consulting. Its simple colors and lighthearted look reflect the easygoing ambiance of the space.

The flamboyant wall graphics of the selfie wall bear our signature. We incorporated all the visual elements that define the brand—from swirls and vibrant, fun colors to graphic representations of flavor through fruit and toppings—all set against a backdrop of cartoon-like multicolored foliage and flowers.

The different elements of this large graphic are used in various configurations throughout other areas of the store. The result is a cheerful, flavor-filled frozen dessert store design that invites customers to linger, enjoy, and share their Swirlicious experience with the world.
