The restaurant design of the newly created Umo Japanese restaurant, located in the beautiful Hotel Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain, is a delicate combination of minimalistic and industrial interior design styles. Sharp angles and clean, metal surfaces make the environment interesting and engaging, while allowing the subtle interior design aspects to stand out and catch the eye.

Varying textures and shapes are included throughout the restaurant design, which help to turn this dining experience into something unique and extraordinary. Gently sloping metal wires arch over the walkways in one section. In another, a makeshift fence with pieces that reach to different heights serves as a partition between tables. Hanging above the guests, lighting is suspended in a haphazard spider web of metal.

The minimalist interior design style is incorporated into the walls with seemingly randomly placed rectangular windows, which allow a glimpse outside, or perhaps showcase some traditional Japanese style artwork.

There are a variety of seating options available in this restaurant interior, from private, two-party tables with tall, metal seat-backs that provide privacy and a sense of seclusion, to the more contemporary cafeteria-like seating with a view of the Japanese grill, or SukiYaki, and a glass front cooler showcasing a large selection of Japanese cocktails and beverages. There are even tables available to seat larger parties, which feature low, bench style seating reminiscent of Ancient Japan. Created by Estudi Josep Cortina, the Umo Japanese restaurant is a beautifully crafted work of art, and should not be missed by those wishing for a gourmet, five-star dining experience that is one of a kind.
